MAMMA MIA

One of the main reasons for radio advertising is to sell products obviously e.g. food, drinks, new movies etc. Another reason for radio advertising is for the radio station to earn money since they would get money if they out an advert up so they need money to continue radio stations otherwise they would be more radio stations. Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania became the first USA commercial broadcasting station to be licsened when it was granted the call letters from KDKA (radio station).

In this assignment I will be analysing one radio advertisement. The radio ad I will be looking at is Mamma Mia which was released in 2017. The message of the radio ad is that the narrator is letting people know that there is a new movie out and that it is near a cinema near them which means they can go see it whenever.

Mamma Mia is an entertainment/factual radio commercial as it includes music from the movie mamma Mia which makes the society want to listen more. From 0.03 seconds, the person who is speaking asks a rhetorical question ("If you haven't seen Mamma Mia yet, what are you waiting for?") which gets the public that is listening to the radio station question themselves if. This alerts them that there is another new good movie out and then they would listen more and then towards the end the person who is speaking says the movie wont stay in the cinema forever which indicates it is already out in cinema and won't stay long which would also persuade them more since he says "won't be in cinemas forever" at 0.17 secs. They want you to go and buy the cinema tickets which means they get the money and you get the entertainment. The radio station obviously also get a lot of money just for adverting it on their radio station with means they have enough for more radio stations.

The purpose of it is to sell tickets at the theatre and let people know that there is a movie coming up in theatres soon so they can go to there local ones.
